  TheShortstop_FullCover

Title: The Shortstop
Author: A.M. Madden
Release Date: July 13th, 2015

Synopsis:

“Quint and Annie sitting in a tree…K.I.S.S.I.N.G.”

Quint Lawson and Annie Weber heard that childhood song over and over and it never bothered them. Even though Quint was only five, Annie wasn’t just his neighbor. She would become his best friend and the love of his life. Annie wasn’t interested in dolls, or girly things when growing up. A tomboy at heart, having a boy as a best friend suited her just fine. That same boy captured her heart.

Quint had two passions, his girl and baseball. From kindergarten to college, Quint tore up every baseball diamond he played on. His position was shortstop. His talent was undeniable. Professional ball was most definitely in his future, and he was ready for it. Annie would be right by his side.

When everything in life is perfect, it’s hard to imagine heartbreak in any form. Quint wasn’t immune to its power. This shortstop had no idea what any form of heartbreak could do to his perfect world. When it hit, there were many casualties left in its wake…the most important one was Annie.

Can a person be prepared for, understand, or even endure a misfortune if they’ve never experienced one before? In Quint Lawson’s case the answer is no.

My Review:

I was lucky enough to BETA read this story and I am so happy I got that chance. This story is definitely different than A.M. Madden's other books but it is still amazing. The writing is again superb and the characters are amazingly well developed. Even though the story it is not as fast paced as I would usually prefer but it is still quite intriguing and interesting. And let's not forget Heartbreaking.

AM Madden Teaser 9As I said before this book is different from everything else I read by A.M. Madden before. At least in my opinion. Whereas her other books had at least a small suspenseful and dangerous feel to them, this one is purely contemporary romance. The hotness factor is also not as high as the Devil's Lair books or Stone Walls. The sexual scenes are also far less than in previous stories and I think that this story is mainly focused on the character's feelings. And in my opinion, that's what makes the story brilliant. At first I thought that the beginning of the book is a little bit too detailed, but further on, I think that it explained a big part of the characters' feelings. So in the end I think that that part fits perfectly into the story and helps the reader to get to know the main characters, their background, their dreams, their feelings and also makes it that much easier to relate to Quint and Annie. It also makes the story complete.

There were few scenes in the book that were so heartbreaking that made cry. And I am not talking about few tears here and there, I am talking about an all out ugly cry. Through A.M. Madden's words I was able to feel every single emotion Annie and Quint were feeling. That part of the book was so devastating to read. I can honestly say that I became completely invested into the characters story and that's why I was extremely happy that they managed to find the HEA they deserved :)

There were also few surprise turns here and there that made the book that much more intriguing. The supporting characters were also quite interesting and I would love to read the stories of some of them in future books. Hopefully A.M. Madden will consider writing them ;)

As a whole, I have to say that I loved this book. The story is intriguing and captivating and so heartbreaking that it simply kept me glued to my seat even in the early hours of the night :) It's an amazingly emotional story written in a brilliant way that will make you cry on more than one occasion. But I can guarantee that you won't regret reading it. So get your one click finger working and get the book the first chance you got :)
